Polish Academy of Science - Katowice Branch
The Katowice Branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences, established in 1974, operates in the provinces of Silesia and Opole. It carries out its activities through scientific committees, inspiring and coordinating scientific research in the region and cooperating with the academic community. The branch maintains agreements with key universities in the region and cooperates with the academic community. The Branch maintains agreements with key universities in the region and participates in the Regional Rectors’ Agreement. On the initiative of the Branch, important regional projects and regional scientific policy guidelines have been developed. The Branch supports the integration of research communities, sponsors the Upper Silesian Botanical Garden, and initiates joint scientific projects important for the development of the region. Another important area of the Branch’s activity is the popularization of science through popular science events and science festivals. The Branch also participates in the implementation of the Silesian Environmental Doctoral Program in the field of environmental engineering, involving universities, units of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and ministerial institutes.
